What nobody tells you about hair growth, is that it comes down to consistency.
Once upon a time, for many years I couldn’t grow my hair past my shoulders. Until the pandemic hit, and I seized the opportunity to finally sort my damaged hair out for good.
Within just 12 weeks, my damaged hair was completely transformed.
This blog will help you accelerate hair growth through some simple changes to your routine.

From Damaged to Desirable Locks
In 2024, I have the long and thick hair I always dreamed of. Now, in this blog, I’ll share with you all of my hair growth secrets. Yes, all of them!

Brush From the Bottom Upwards
First things first, you are more than likely damaging your hair every time you pick up that hair brush.
If you brush your hair from top to bottom, then you are breaking off more hair than necessary.
By brushing from the bottom upwards instead, you will cause less breakage.
This is a small change you can make to your daily routine, which will have a huge impact on the quality of your hair.

Hair Growth Hack #1:
Avoid brushing your hair when it is wet because this is when it is most prone to breakage.
2. Invest In a Silk Pillowcase
Whilst I say invest, silk or satin pillowcases are extremely affordable, and they will transform your hair for the better.
Sleeping on a cotton pillowcase damages your hair during the night. This is because as your head moves around on the pillow it causes friction with your hair, causing breakage.
By changing to a silk or satin pillowcase you can reduce this friction, and you will wake up with smoother and less tatted hair.

Hair Growth Hack #2:
In general, handle your hair gently because it is fragile.
3. Change Your Hair-washing Habits
Every time you wash your hair you are stripping it of its natural oils, which keep it nourished and healthy.
When you do wash your hair you should be using a shampoo with no sulfates in. Sulfates are extremely drying for the hair, and unfortunately, most shampoos contain them. This is why it is useful to invest a little more in your shampoo and conditioner to avoid this ingredient.
You should avoid doing the classic “towel thing” when you get out of the shower. Similar to your pillowcase, a towel can cause breakage through friction, especially when it is wet.

Hair Growth Hack #3:
Squeeze out as much excess water as possible before putting conditioner on your hair. The less water that is in your hair at the time of conditioning, the more your hair can soak up the goodness of the hair conditioner.
4. Healthy Lifestyle & Hair Growth Vitamins
To grow well your hair requires biotin, vitamin C, zinc and protein.
You can take hair growth vitamins to help ensure your body is getting these supplements.
In general though, for healthy hair, you need to be keeping up with a healthy lifestyle which includes a balanced diet and regular exercise.
Make sure you are eating plenty of protein in particular.

Hair Growth Hack #4:
Scalp health is extremely important for hair growth. Try doing a scalp scrub once every two weeks.
5. Reduce Heat Usage On Your Hair
You will be dazzled at how much the quality of your hair improves when you limit the amount of heat it is exposed to.
The main catalyst for my hair growth during lockdown was stopping using heat for 6 weeks straight.
The less often you use heat hair styling tools on your hair, the more your hair quality will improve. Heat causes serious hair damage. When you do use heat, you need to be using a heat protection spray.
If you’re looking to achieve curls or waves in your hair then try heatless hair rollers or the heatless curls technique.

Hair Growth Hack #5:
Reducing heat exposure on your hair also includes turning the temperature of your shower down! Try to wash your hair in cold water, it is much kinder to your precious scalp.
6. Tweak Your Hair Styling Methods
Tight and high hairstyles also cause breakage to the hair.
Instead, try opting for low ponytails or braids, instead of pulling your hair up high.
When going to sleep you should also opt for loose and low hairstyles to protect the hair further, with a gentle hair scrunchie as opposed to a tight hair bobble.

Hair Growth Hack #6:
Get hair trims from your hairdresser regularly, to remove split ends. I go every 3 months.
7. Moisture, Moisture, Moisture!
Just like your skin, your hair needs moisture.
Once a week you should be pampering your hair with at least one hair mask, some hair oil or serum, if not all three! I like to leave oil on my hair for a couple of hours before washing my hair. But, you can do this as an overnight treatment or twenty minutes before you wash your hair, whatever works best for you.
Castor oil in particular is amazing for hair growth, but there is a range of different masks and oils on the market. Everyone’s hair is different, so you will find that some products will work better than others for you. For me a rosemary oil-infused hair mask and some natural castor oil mixed together once a week completely transformed the quality of my hair, keeping it thick, soft, and long.

Hair Growth Hack #7:
Before oiling your hair make sure it is fully brushed through.
8. Invest In Good Hair Care Products
Your hair can massively benefit from using good quality hair care products. I have compiled a list below of my all-time favourite products that I use every single week:
- The Ordinary – Hair Density Serum
- GrowsMary – Hair Syrup Rosemary Oil
- Beautyworks – Vegan Bristle Brush
- Mielle – Rosemary Mint Strengthening Hair Masque
- Superdrug – Castor Oil
- SheaMoisture – Hydrate & Repair Shampoo
I highly recommend these products if you are looking to start your hair growth journey.

Hair Growth Hack #8:
Use a scalp massager to massage the oil into your hair.
Transform Your Hair
By making these simple changes, you will be able to completely transform your hair. Of course, everyone’s hair is different, so try not to compare yourself to others.
If you are starting your hair growth journey then I recommend taking a picture once a week to keep track of your progress.
Happy hair growing!
