How to Live in Alignment with the Moon’s Phases?

The moon’s phases, from the mysterious new moon to the radiant full moon, are cosmic guides that have inspired spiritual practices across the globe for centuries.

For thousands of years, cultures around the world have created moon rituals to harness its energy and deepen their connection to the universe.

With this in mind, by aligning with the phases of the moon through personal rituals, you can harness its energy to your advantage, helping you to live the life of your dreams. But, how?

The Moon’s Phases

The moon doesn’t always look the same to us, and that’s because of its changing phases. These phases happen because of how the moon, Earth, and sun line up, creating different amounts of moonlight visible to us.

Over about 29.5 days, the moon goes through a full cycle of eight phases:

  • New Moon (all dark)
  • Waxing Crescent (a growing sliver)
  • First Quarter (half-lit),
  • Waxing Gibbous (almost full)
  • Full Moon (big and bright)
  • Waning Gibbous (starting to shrink)
  • Last Quarter (half-lit again)
  • Waning Crescent (a tiny sliver)

We can use the moon to fuel personal growth, transformation and renewal.

The New Moon

The new moon happens when the moon sits between Earth and the sun, leaving it almost invisible to us. Spiritually, it’s all about fresh starts, a perfect time to set intentions and plant the seeds for new beginnings. The New Moon is a chance to start fresh, explore new possibilities and begin writing the next chapter of your life.

New Moon Affirmation: “I welcome change and the opportunities it brings into my life.”

New Moon Ritual: Write down your goals, dreams and desires on a piece of paper or in your journal, being very clear and specific about what you want to attract into your life. If you’re really keen to lock in your desires, you could even sleep with these desires under your pillow on the night of the new moon.

The Full Moon

The full moon is when the moon shines at its brightest, appearing as a complete circle in the sky. This phase is deeply meaningful spiritually, symbolising completion, celebration, and a surge in intuition. It’s the perfect time to celebrate accomplishments, express gratitude, and take some time to reflect.

Full Moon Affirmation:I celebrate my achievements and honour the journey that shaped me.”

Full Moon Ritual: Journal down everything you’re grateful for and reflect on the progress you’ve made. List your accomplishments, big or small and express appreciation for your growth. To further enhance the full moon energy, you could also write down any past hurt, and rip this up as a symbol of letting go.

Tuning into the Moon

The moon’s energy influences our emotions and moods, and we can use it to fuel personal growth, transformation and renewal.

Full Moon Rituals are all about celebrating your achievements and showing gratitude.  Whereas, New Moon Rituals focus on setting intentions for what you want to bring into your life.
